What is a Newborn Care Specialist?

A Newborn Care Specialist (NCS) is an individual trained and skilled in newborn care. She will have expertise in all aspects of newborn

care while providing support and guidance to the parents. She will be knowledgeable in breastfeeding and formula, setting a schedule, sleep training, interpreting baby’s needs, types of diaper rashes and how to treat them, cord care, circumcision care, colic, reflux, swaddling, soothing techniques, ailments, newborn safety and complete baby basics. She will have experience with preemies, multiples and special needs babies. Also offering in live-in services, ROTA Shifts, 8,10 or 14 hour shifts as well.

What are some of the duties?

*Educate and support the parents  

*Provide care for the newborn, such as:

-Diapering

-Changing -Bathing

-Circumcision care

-Umbilical Cord Care

-Bottle preparation and cleaning
-Organizing and maintaining Nursery and Baby supplies

-Create a feeding and sleeping schedule
-Maintain a thorough log/journal of babies activities (eating, sleep, diaper changes)
-Take over complete care of newborn at night so parents can rest

-Create a smooth transition for parents and siblings during newborn stage

-Address potential issues of concern with the newborn

-Assist mother with feeding issues

-Use skilled and proven soothing techniques to calm newborns

-Educate parents on reflux/colic if newborn experiences issues with GER/GERD
